Checking your vehicle for damage is a critical, but time-consuming process. With TÜV SÜD’s Digital Vehicle Scanner, you can get it done in only 10 seconds. Maximilian Küblbeck, Managing Director of TÜV SÜD Auto Plus GmbH talks us through the solution, and how it fits into a broader vision of vehicle safety.
For almost as long as there have been machines, TÜV SÜD has been making sure they’re safe to use. The inspection and certification company does machine inspection and assessment, from medical devices to vehicles.
Throughout the last 150 years, the company stayed at the forefront of safety and innovation. “We started our testing procedures in the Industrial Revolution," says Maximilian Küblbeck. “Now, we use digital methods in vehicle assessment, just to have faster and more efficient methods that benefit everyone.”
The Digital Vehicle Scanner is one of the latest innovations when it comes to vehicle safety.
“Checking the vehicles for damage is critical but time-consuming”, says Maximilian. “To help fleet managers speed up this crucial step, we aimed to reinvent the way the inspection is done.
The Digital Vehicle Scanner uses up to twenty cameras to capture vehicles driving through it from all angles – within 10 seconds. Every square inch of the truck and trailer is mapped, and every nook and cranny is investigated and uploaded to your servers.”
The digital nature of the process gives customers a real edge, Maximillian explains: “Many fleet managers never see their vehicles in person, especially when they are distributed nationally or across Europe. The fleet check using Digital Vehicle Scanner helps visualise the condition for the fleet manager, regardless of where they are.”
Maximilian explains the thought process: “We relieve our customers of tasks that are not part of their core business. Our job is to allow them to focus on their own customers. We bring speed to the process, covering the entire chain from vehicle delivery to sale.”
TÜV SÜD takes care of all assessment-related tasks: safety evaluations, getting vehicles into traffic, bringing them into the second-hand market quickly, reducing turnaround times, and minimising downtime. They ensure you can focus on your business while keeping your fleet in top shape.
“The advantages lie in predictive control or action, before entering the workshop. You can already determine what needs to be done. Are there defects outside the usual maintenance? Is there damage to the underbody, oil leakage, etc... The Digital Vehicle Scanner makes sure you know everything beforehand, avoiding redundant work and minimising downtime,” says Maximillian.
Goodyear CheckPoint is the latest addition to the Digital Vehicle Scanner and provided the missing piece. Now the system can give even more complete overview, and help you perfect preventative maintenance schedules. Goodyear CheckPoint consists of a pressure plate and several cameras, integrated seamlessly into the Digital Vehicle Scanner. When the vehicle drives over this plate, the cameras and sensors register:
tyre pressure
remaining tread
depth
axle load*
Thanks to the close integration, all the data is gathered and centralised in a single report, stored in TÜV SÜD-owned systems and clouds. Everything is secured and anonymous, so you don’t have to worry about data vulnerability.
Maximilian underscores the shared the philosophy of TÜV SÜD and Goodyear: “We're glad to have Goodyear as a strong partner who understands what they are developing. Our focus is on safety and inspection. Goodyear's expertise greatly benefits us, enhancing our overall technology and benefiting our customers.”
Both Goodyear and TÜV SÜD continue to invest in technologies that help fleet managers optimise operations and protect critical assets. From more cost savings to speeding up checks and maintenance, Goodyear is ready to help you drive results.
