The main benefit of Goodyear TPMS is that you can keep an eye on the tyres, wherever you are. If they start to deflate, you know there’s a problem and can sort it out. And of course you can maintain optimum pressure, which means optimum tyre wear, fuel economy and driver safety.
But our fleet customers are resourceful people, and some of them have told Goodyear how they are using Goodyear TPMS and its apps in other ways – and getting even more benefit from them.
TPMS solutions usually also help fleets to track the location of their vehicles. But Goodyear TPMS also offers a geo-fencing functionality, enabling fleet managers to set up virtual boundaries that will trigger an alert when the vehicle passes through it. Want to know as soon as your consignment arrives? Set up a geo fence. With an increase in just-in-time deliveries and inventory management, major manufacturers levy serious penalties on late deliveries. So the app can give you peace of mind – keeping you informed as much or as little as you want.
Some trucks are equipped with sophisticated anti-theft devices. But the geo-fencing feature can also be a big help in combating vehicle theft at no extra cost. Set up a geo-fence of your vehicle’s usual sphere of operation. If it leaves that area, you get an instant alert.
One of the great advantages of Goodyear TPMS is that tyre maintenance teams don’t need to check every valve on every tyre in the yard. If a tyre is underinflated, they get an alert. But some problems are not that obvious. That’s why some tyre technicians use the Goodyear apps that collect data and compare pressure over time. A very gradual deflation is thus highlighted, revealing faults that often go undiagnosed, such as hairline fractures in the wheel rim.
How do you find and retain good-quality, reliable, experienced drivers? These days it’s about more than just salary and benefits. The use of solutions like Goodyear TPMS has two positive effects: it shows potential recruits that yours is a technologically advanced, progressive fleet, which is likely to be successful in the long term, and it shows that the company places importance on the safety of drivers and other road users. Trade unions are increasingly pushing for driver safety measures – and drivers care about employers who care about them.
Surprising, but true. For some fleets, the ability of TPMS sensors to monitor the tyre’s cavity temperature is crucial. Using the app, fleet managers can be alerted of sudden spikes in temperature. While it’s normal for running temperatures to gradually rise during the course of a journey and to be higher in hot weather, a sudden spike can be a sign of something more serious, such as damaged bearings, which can lead to overheated brakes. Fleets that serve the oil & gas sector are understandably keen to spot this before it becomes a problem.
